So far my survey on what would interest people within a school/college magazine has recieved 57 responces in less than one week. Although that it is obvious some participants did not take the survey seriously, others have clearly taken time considering their answers and I have found their responces incredibly useful in gaining an understanding of what I should include within my school/college magazine.
1. Common responces for the title of the magazine consisted of featuring the schools name or title but added 'R us' onto the end, e.g.
FSG 'R' Us
College 'R' us or School 'R' us
Other title suggestions also included: FSG Times, FSG Mag, School Mag or FSG Weekly...
However my favourite replies were the more creative answers where you could clearly see the student had thought about their suggestion before contributing, for example: Oh Dormit! (a play on words realting to school dormitories), Corridor Buzz and my personal favorite.. Educ8ted!
2. The majority of those who took the survey wanted a magazine that applied to the whole school (this was around 70% of my results).
3. 75.4% (43 responses) said that they would want a social network link to be based around Facebook
40.4% (23 responses) opted for Twitter
The remaining responces either said they would not want a social network link, or would rather have it based on other blog sites such as tumblr.
4. When I gave the option of 'Should it have areas unrelated to the school environment?' the most part of replies that I received were from students saying how they would be interested in reading about local events/opportunities/activities, recent news and what was current in regards to music, fashion ect. Examples such as the Folkestone Film Festival and Leas Cliff Hall were given.
5. Evidence to support the previous question was made clear when i asked what areas would interest you within a school/college magazine, the top 3 answers were:
- Events inside and outside school
- Exam Advice
- Agony Aunt
